Public Hearts Defib Campaign launches Cardiac Screening
Having facilitated 72 publicly accessible defibs in Cheltenham and surrounding areas in the last 5 years – and 66 of these in the last 2 years – these defibrillators can and do save lives in a cardiac arrest.
To celebrate five years of our not-for-profit community work, Public Hearts is proud to announce Phase 2.
Starting in 2024, Public Hearts Defibrillator Campaign is launching a Community Cardiac Screening Program to help address the health inequalities in the most underrepresented areas of Cheltenham.
Each week in the UK, 12 young people aged between 14 and 35 die from sudden cardiac arrest. The only way to diagnose congenital heart defects or genetic abnormalities in the heart’s electrical system and structure is through ECG and ECHO screening.
Currently there is no automatic framework to offer cardiac screening in the UK, unless there has been a young sudden death in the family.
The family is then entitled to be screened on the NHS. This can be a long wait, extending the length of timely diagnosis and prolonging the uncertainty for individuals and their family.
In collaboration with Public Hearts key partners, Spirax-Sarco, Evans Jones, Tidal, G4S, Circle2Success, Bob Holt OBE and our charity partner, CCP our 1st community cardiac screening program offers funded cardiac screening in pockets of Cheltenham considered to be amongst the 10 most deprived areas in the country.
The first date is 25 April 2024 9-4pm and will be hosted at The Schoolhouse Café to encourage the local community and residents of St Paul’s aged 14 – 35 to be screened.Facilitating community cardiac screening actively promotes getting to the heart of the community, facilitating access for all and life-changing and lifesaving information that could improve the health and lives of individuals, families, neighbourhoods, and the potential of future community health services. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) affects 1 in every 250 people worldwide, so its impact is far reaching, and close to home.By supporting our screening program, our charity partner, CCP will also benefit as we are donating 20% of each screen sponsor to support their vital community services.
80% goes to Public Hearts and Cardiac Screening services
